[05:07:25] <dwillis> I'm trying to decide whether this is insanity or genius. Will we next do text editing over SIP?
[05:08:13] <bpenfield> its both
[05:08:51] <dwillis> Is this a case of "Since SIP solved the rendezvous and firewall problems, we will re-invent every other INternet application using SIP?" Or is it just the obvious next thing to do?
[05:08:55] <jfischl> isn't this type of information best sent over MSRP?
[05:09:12] <bpenfield> thats what i thought too
[05:09:15] --- Fred.Lefebvre has left
[05:09:48] <dwillis> Personally, I was thinking HTTP.

[05:10:58] <bpenfield> before you know it, we'll be tunneling everything over SIP (HTTP, FTP, telnet......)
[05:11:10] <dwillis> audio, video . . .
[05:11:39] <bhoeneis> HTTP MUST not be used, but SIP is not restricted yet.....;-)
[05:11:45] <dwillis> I'm already working on something vaguely like "X11 over SIP" in WIDEX.
[05:12:48] <bpenfield> i know of folks that want to send a 200K "picture" in the body of a MESSAGE request
[05:13:32] <dwillis> Better to send a link and let a picture be retrieved with HTTP.
[05:13:55] <bpenfield> i told them that
[05:14:11] <dwillis> Maybe use an RSS description. That would work for files-available-for-xfer too.
[05:19:24] <jfischl> HTTP doesn't work in the peer to peer case. i.e. I want to share the files on my computer with my colleague
[05:19:30] <jfischl> because of NATs
[05:20:51] <dwillis> You could use ICE with HTTP, right?
[05:26:41] <dwillis> Seriously. SUBSCRIBE to an RSS or Atom feed notifier. Anytime the feed changes (i.e., it;s timestamp changes), get a NOTIFY. This provides a push-alternative to the RSS/Atom "poll" model. The "link" element could either be http (assuming it works, see ICE/HTTP discussion), MSRP, whatever we think needs to be used for the file xfer.
