[12:16:21] <Bob Moskowitz> I have been a bit remiss in not participating in how this work impacts Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Remote ID.  Please look at https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-drip-rid/ and how important MAC address in Bluetooth 4 broadcasts and that even Bt5 and WiFi MAC address is still used.  This CAN be limited per UA 'Operation' or what those outside UAS world would call a 'flight'.
[12:16:41] Taiji Kimura_web_167 joins the room
[12:17:37] <Bob Moskowitz> there is NO identifier that can replace MAC address in Bluetooth 4.  The frames are just too small.
[12:17:58] <Éric Vyncke_web_421> Unsure whether this survey of current standards should be in the use case I-D
[12:18:07] Tobia Castaldi_web_195 joins the room
[12:19:02] <Yiu Lee_web_447> The current version of the use case draft has removed the survey requirement.
[12:19:27] <Bob Moskowitz> In BT5 and WiFi, this ONLY works if the 'Basic Message' with the Remote ID is contained in each 'Message Pack'.  Otherwise, even here MAC address is needed to link message together.
[12:19:57] Tobia Castaldi_web_195 leaves the room
[12:20:14] <Peter Yee_web_285> Bob, are MAC addresses in BT4/5 being randomized?
[12:20:53] <Bob Moskowitz> It  depends on the code.  Not on the UA side.
[12:23:23] Dirk Hugo_web_484 leaves the room
[12:23:27] Dirk Hugo_web_118 joins the room
[12:23:37] Kazuya Okada_web_549 joins the room
[12:25:52] <Mathieu Cunche_web_967> @Peter : they can be randomized by the emitting device (see our study on current implementations : https://hal.inria.fr/hal-02394629)
[12:26:22] <Tim Cappalli_web_589> 100% agree with Michael's comments
[12:27:06] <Tim Cappalli_web_589> What about "Is you refrigerator running?" :)
[12:27:19] <Mathieu Cunche_web_967> @Bob : which device is randomizing the address in your use case ?
[12:28:16] <Bob Moskowitz> You may want your refrig to have a different MAC addr when you put it out for recycling.
[12:28:55] Tim Cappalli_web_589 leaves the room
[12:28:59] Tim Cappalli_web_627 joins the room
[12:29:05] Michael B_web_722 joins the room
[12:29:41] <Peter Yee_web_285> Thanks, Mathieu.
[12:29:43] <Bob Moskowitz> @Mathieu:  randomizing is bad in UA use case, and the receiving app needs to get the MAC addr of the broadcast frames, not something the underlying OS decides to pass up to the app.
[12:30:06] <Jerome Henry_web_861> IEEE P1912 is exactly looking at the fridge case, or 'smart fridge', worth having a look, as smart fridges may send a lot of PII out
[12:30:13] <Juan-Carlos Zúñiga_web_139> meetecho
[12:30:23] <Juan-Carlos Zúñiga_web_139> can we point the camera to the presenter?
[12:30:34] <Juan-Carlos Zúñiga_web_139> tnx!
[12:30:38] <Meetecho> Done, sorry for missing that!
[12:30:42] Dirk Hugo_web_118 leaves the room
[12:30:46] Dirk Hugo_web_128 joins the room
[12:30:47] Tim Cappalli_web_627 leaves the room
[12:31:14] <Juan-Carlos Zúñiga_web_139> thanks!
[12:32:15] <Mathieu Cunche_web_967> @Bob. I understand that it is a problem for your use case. I thought you were saying that the receiving device was randomizing the address before passing it to the app. Am I correct ?
[12:32:28] <Peter van Dijk_web_163> slide rendering broken for anybody else?
[12:32:40] Tobia Castaldi_web_197 joins the room
[12:32:42] <Peter van Dijk_web_163> moving the mouse over it fixed it ...
[12:33:04] Tobia Castaldi_web_197 leaves the room
[12:33:08] <Juan-Carlos Zúñiga_web_139> The slide was broken here too
[12:33:14] <Juan-Carlos Zúñiga_web_139> we moved to the next
[12:33:29] <Juan-Carlos Zúñiga_web_139> some rendering issue, perhaps
[12:33:54] Jesus Martin_web_546 leaves the room
[12:34:03] Dirk Hugo_web_128 leaves the room
[12:34:04] <Peter van Dijk_web_163> ah yes, I assumed it was the same slide but both slides had that blue arrow
[12:34:04] <Bob Moskowitz> I should also point out that in UA command and control (C2) MAC addr is often used to link the messages.  NAVlink over the MAC layer is an example.  And for some security setups, the security keys are bound to the UA and GCS (Ground Control System) MAC addresses.  And this gets really fun when the GCS is a smartphone or tablet, not some special purpose GCS.
[12:34:07] Dirk Hugo_web_133 joins the room
[12:35:15] <Bob Moskowitz> I know of one vendor that uses IPsec with SCHC and the MAC addr of the smartphone and the UA are used for the binding.
[12:35:24] Tim Cappalli_web_253 joins the room
[12:36:43] <Mathieu Cunche_web_967> Bob : Can Resolvable Addresses (à la Bluetooth Low Energy) solve that ?
[12:37:33] Behcet Sarikaya_web_904 joins the room
[12:38:19] <Bob Moskowitz> Don't know.  BLE is NOT in the FAA regulations.  FAA would have to amend the regs (and that is a BIG effort) to extend to BLE.  And remember, this is all broadcast frames.  No pairing possible.
[12:39:11] Marta Seda_web_823 joins the room
[12:39:31] <Bob Moskowitz> And I don't know of any other national CAA (Civil Aviation Administration) working with BLE.

[12:47:15] <Bob Moskowitz> Go back to the '80s and Comer's TCP/IP book and you will see how MAC address was/is used!
[12:48:04] <Bob Moskowitz> In fact the 10min ARP table timeout was based on how fast a team of Comer's grad students could power down the DEC, change out the ethernet card, and bring the system back up...
[12:48:27] Dirk Hugo_web_133 leaves the room
[12:48:31] Dirk Hugo_web_713 joins the room

[12:55:54] <BEHCET SARIKAYA> @Bob I used Jim Kurose's book not Comer
