[18:50:18] <Markus Stenberg> DTLS with certs is also much less painful to setup or upgrade than million psks.
[18:50:46] <jch> Markus, Mike?
[18:50:59] <jch> Do I forward your question?
[18:51:01] <Markus Stenberg> just trolling channel, same disclaimer as before ;)
[18:51:04] <jch> *comment
[18:51:05] <Markus Stenberg> it's not really question
[18:51:35] <Markus Stenberg> HMAC extension is relatively complex as it wants to support roll-over, sort of, but that you can get for free if you use certs with DTLS (and much more)
[18:52:02] <Markus Stenberg> so I find the 'simple thing' arguments sad because you wind up having LOTS of properties to choose from, and if you choose large subset, you might as well use DTLS
[18:53:55] <Markus Stenberg> cost of DTLS is mostly handshakes, the subsequent traffic as long as the SA is up is relatively cheap (just some crypto that can be hw-accelerated, e.g. AES-NI)
[18:55:11] <jch> Tony P, then Russ White, now David Schinazi.
[18:56:53] <jch> That was me.
